Ambanja vs Ambilobe — geographic neighbours, distinct expressions.

Ambanja and Ambilobe sit only 60km apart on Madagascar's northwest coast but produce panthers with measurably different color signatures.

Ambanja vs Ambilobe — geographic neighbours, distinct expressions.

The Ambanja-Ambilobe distinction is the most contested in the hobby because the two locales border each other and share some genetic background. The reliable separators: Ambanja typically expresses red body with blue lateral bars and a deeper red casque; Ambilobe expresses yellow-to-green body with sharper, narrower blue bars and lighter casque tones. Both have variation, but the centroids are distinct.

Cross-locale animals (Ambanja-Ambilobe hybrids) exist and are sometimes sold as one or the other. Pedigree documentation is the only reliable separator. We do not breed cross-locale animals at DSquared, and a buyer evaluating a hobby breeder should ask for documentation of both parents' locale lines back two generations.
