Today's action

Check this week's weather. If a clear morning under 80°F is coming, plan a 20-minute outdoor session for your animal.

Outdoor cage time in summer — the UVB no bulb can match.

Twenty minutes of unfiltered morning sun once a week through summer is worth more vitamin D synthesis than any indoor bulb provides.

Outdoor cage time in summer — the UVB no bulb can match.

On a clear summer morning between 8 and 10am, the UVI in direct sun outside ranges 4–7 — well above what any indoor T5 HO bulb produces. A panther in a screen cage placed in direct morning sun for fifteen to twenty-five minutes (with shade available within the cage) gets a UVB dose that compounds across the season into noticeably stronger calcium uptake.

Rules: never glass between the animal and the sun (glass blocks UVB), always provide a deep shade option inside the cage, never above 85°F ambient, never unattended, and watch for any signs of overheating. Twenty minutes once a week from June through August is the sweet spot for most panthers in the continental US.
