Stress coloration vs display coloration — they are not the same.
Display is bright, posture is high, eyes are forward. Stress is dark with high-contrast bars, posture is low, eyes are mobile and watching exits.

Display coloration happens in confident, often territorial moments — a male sees another male, a female enters a breeding window, a keeper presents a tempting feeder. Body color saturates, casque deepens, gular patch flares, posture goes high on the perch. The animal looks taller, brighter, more dimensional.
Stress coloration is the opposite. Body darkens, contrast bars get harsh and graphic, posture flattens, eye turrets scan exits. The animal looks compressed and anxious. If you cannot tell which one you are seeing, watch the eyes — display animals lock on the trigger; stressed animals scan continuously. Stress coloration that persists more than ten minutes after the trigger is removed is a care problem to investigate.
